The downfall of Pakistan in Common Wealth Games except Wrestling

Islamabad: Common Wealth Games started in 1930 but Pakistan first competed 1954 and Pakistani started to progress by competing better and the results were shown in the Common Wealth Games of 1962 held in Perth when Pakistani came 4th with 8 gold medals, in the next two common wealth games after 1962 Pakistan came on 7th position with 4, 4 gold medals held in 1966 and 1970 respectively. After that for the next consecutive 7 common wealth games either Pakistan didn’t compete or not won a single gold.

So, 1970 was the last common wealth games when Pakistan have more than 2 medals after 1970 Pakistan stopped producing athletes who can compete and win medals.

The recent common wealth games were held in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018 Pakistan have won a single gold in wrestling category and from previous tracks Pakistan have only dominated in wrestling category other than that they have not been very successful. Pakistan have won most medals in wrestling because of the people’s interest in it especially the people of Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat and Faisalabad are fond of wrestling and it have shown good results on number of occasions. Pakistan is ranked 3rd in wrestling category of common wealth games .
